Working close to essential infrastructure
At Murray Irrigation, I worked in an environment where software and SCADA systems support the delivery and management of water across a large irrigation network. The work sat close to real operations: understanding established systems, tracing data and behaviour carefully, and making changes with the consequences for staff and customers in mind.
It strengthened the habits I value most in engineering - investigating before changing, communicating clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues, and treating reliability, maintainability and operational context as part of the feature rather than cleanup for later.
